Three months into Covid 19, Canada was forced into a full lockdown. Dr. Scott Yamaoka’s Vancouver based dental practice was among the few essential businesses that remained open. As such, Dr. Yamaoka had to quickly search for high quality PPE to guarantee the safety for not only himself, but that of his colleagues and patients.

Face Shields, in particular, created massive inconveniences to his team’s operation. They didn’t have enough clearance for loupes, and they slipped down the head during extended operations. Frustrated, Dr. Yamaoka developed a new design from his garage. It was a simple concept – he cut a safety helmet in half, glued 5 magnets onto the rim and used a piece of school supply plastic as the visor.
